I wish that I had read this book first since it is the first in the Lizzie Hart mysteries series. I fell in love with Lizzie in two other books and had to go back to read this first book. Caroline Fardig is a good author and really pulls you into her plots. I can really picture all of the characters as they go about their daily home and work lives. This is a series that I will go back and read again, only in the correct chronological order next time.
Loved this book! I loved the wit of the author...reminiscent of Janet Evanovich with the tongue in cheek humor. Definitely plan on getting more by Caroline Fardig! Several of the characters surprised me toward the end...did not expect such a twist with one of the characters. Thanks for the fun read. I reached the 2nd murder before the familiarity became a certainty.
A couple of the characters were kinda irritating. That might be because I really dislike reading a book/story twice.
The author has talent, I hope she looks to improve her skills. To really work on being better.
From what I remember, this story is worth reading. I've read better, BUT I've read a LOT that were a WHOLE lot worse!!
Normally I find steam of consciousness narratives boring as all get out, especially when the heroine is small town, small minded, and desperately needs to get laid.
This was all that... And the humorous touches added an additional gloss that just added to the entire experience. The writing is a tad clunky in parts (I do find myself becoming tired of heroines who are apparently drop dead gorgeous but think of themselves as shrinking wallflowers), but the pace is quick, lively and surprisingly agile.
My only real complaint is, yet again, the mystery is not solved through any intelligence of the main characters, but through the actions of the perpetrator to not only remove any possible problem but to also boast about their crimes.
~The main character, Lizzie Hart, acts more like a school girl than a professional journalist. I grew tired of her dealings and plotting and planning about her heart-throb, Blake Morgan.
~With that said, I did enjoy the story, though it was definitely a light-weight mystery…that is the nature of “cozy” stories.
~Read it and enjoy it for what it is. I don’t think I’d want to read story after story about Lizzie…but this one was a pleasant diversion.
This is a good mystery that pulls you right in. Anyone who lives or has lived in a small town will fall right into Lizzie's way of thinking. The only thing I didn't like was there is no real ending. which means it continues in yet another book.
This series is entertaining and a good read. One of my more favorite series of cozy mysteries. Have read them all so far and waiting on the next installment if that tells you anything. Recommend to anyone who reads to pass the time and wants to enjoy their time reading. Of course, these books can stand alone, but it's so much better to enjoy them from the start.
